This tufted perennial grass can grow up to 1 meter high. It is very tolerant of waterlogging and has been long used as a valuable fodder grass in the northern hemisphere.
Yorkshire fog can tolerate a wide range of fertility and acidity conditions. Its value for grazing is better when it is still young.
Low palatability may result in companion species being overgrazed allowing Yorkshire fog to invade these areas.
